Symbiosis - The Art of Living with Water

thirdspace Gallery is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, 'Symbiosis - The Art of Living with Water,' exploring the theme of art, science, and water through the relationships between Rotherham and Doncaster’s watercourses and the interconnected threats of flooding, the climate emergency, and the biodiversity crisis.

The exhibition will take place from 20th February to 3rd March at thirdspace gallery, Rotherham Market and will feature a diverse collection of works from artists, environmentalists, and scientists, including Annie Carpenter, Molly Shaw, Ted Webley and Adrian Barron, Sarah Villeneau, Maya Bou-Gharios, Janet Wallace, Jennifer Rozenfelds, Zoyander Street, Theo Price, and Teresa Sayner.

The exhibition is the culmination of a year-long programme of bursaries, workshops, and public events, supported by the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG), which served as a platform for the cross-fertilisation of ideas from artists, environmentalists, scientists, and citizen scientists.

The programme aimed to encourage the residents and participants to think about the resilience of their community to the impacts of climate change, reducing emissions locally, recognising their role in the ecology, and taking action to promote biodiversity, such as reducing car usage, household waste, saving natural habitats, and restoring peatlands.

A film showing will be held on 27th February at 7pm, at ROAR Artspace featuring works from the ArtBomb festival and the Rewilding Project, including "ArtBomb 12.5 M Premiere", "Re-wilding Brigitte Perenyi and Angela Robson", "Verginal Rambling (working title) Sarah Pennington", "A Film by Adrian", and "Water Mirrors - Mike Stubbs".

Join us for the opening reception on 18th February from 12 pm to 2 pm and be a part of this important and thought-provoking exploration of art, science, and water. We look forward to seeing you there!
